How should i start training for a marathon?

I excercise almost every day, however i still do not feel i am in great shape. I've made it a long-term goal to complete a marathon. I am not a runner, and not a big fan of running either. I am not in great shape and i don't have a specific date it can even be a year or two from now. How should i train specifically?|||You need to establish a base running routine. You'll likely begin as a walker or run-walker before you transition into full-blown running. You'll also likely become a bigger 'fan' of running once you get your routine going. Things are hardest in the first months, where it can take effort to get out the door. Once you get into a routine, they'll seem hardest the days you *don't* run.

Anyway, you need to get fitted for shoes in a running specialty store, then simply get out moving your legs at least every other day for ideally 30-45 minutes minimum per session.

It's usually recommended to have a routine going for at least a year before beginning a 12-16 month marathon-specific program. Most people will transition through things like 5k's and half marathons in that first year, however.

The following two books are probably the most frequently recommended for starting a running routine and preparing for your first marathon (with primary goal of completion).

Most beginners also subscribe to Runner's World magazine, or at least scour articles on their website. The full answers to your questions do require more than you can get just here.|||You should'nt your heart is not in it, to be a marathon runner. Not meaning to be harsh- your setting yourself up for failer.

Do a triathlon instead, so much funner and the chances of injury are lower than if you were training for a marathon.

Most "unfitter" people prefer triathlons to marathons..

If you did really want to do running though, i'd say aim for a half marathon or a 12km fun run.|||OKAY, i like your question ! me as a sport specialist, tell u the steps.

1st : u must increase the rate of your exercises that u do everyday, like do more and let it be more difficult so that u feel that something is going on with ur body.

2nd : after the exercise (which must be only kinda stretching) get out and jog, try to run in an appropriate way not randomly and measure the time and km , then SLOWLY try to increase time or km when u feel that the x time/km is nothing according to you , the most important thing is that u must not skip days, ex: if u think u'll jog like day yes and day no then try to stay on the design, if ur marathon is too close, then try to do more and harder exercises, but remember , DO NOT exercise like those small 5 years kids who see a movie that contain Karate and they suddenly start hitting the wall trying to make muscles :D get it ?? so even if the marathon is 1 day away, do not do alot of exercise, cause this might make u soo tired that may force u not to jog for like 2 days cause ur muscles are tired :)

3rd : when u jog or run ( u must jog or run like 1.5-2 km per day let it be 1.4 km jogging then 0.1 km walking trying to take a 1 minute rest) u must not breath randomly, i can't tell u how to breath here on internet , but i think u know how to , like : innnnnn then outtttt , this breathing is proved cause it is an organized one that may increase the rate of running by 60 % which means that u can run the double u ran ! OH btw , can u choose me as ur best answer :D thnxx

Notation : Exercise and jogging must never be done at night b4 sleeping ! it will bother u while u r sleeping !so try to make'em at morning, wake up , put smthing in ur mouth , wait 1 hour so that the food will not affect (depend on the amount of food) energy drink migth also incredibly help ! Its not about what u can do , its about what u have (STAMINA, girl)|||For a marathon, you need to build up stamina. What you can try is jogging a few km a few times a week, or jump roping for long periods of time. Something that uses your lower body. Make sure to push yourself to the limit, then keep on going. That's how you effectively increase your stamina.
