How can I train to run a marathon without leaving my home?

By this I mean be able to finish a marathon at a decent pace without going running every week. It is even possible?|||Probably going to be tricky.

Really to run a marathon in a decent time you need to put n some time with cardiovascular training, this could be running but it could also include cycling or swimming. When I say putting in some time, I mean doing some cadio exercises 3 or 4 rimes a week of various lengths of time - from 30 minutes to 2 hours. A marathon is quite a commitment to complete.

OK people have completed marathons without a specific training programme however these people are generally fit to start with and arn't afraid to exercise outside.

Now it is possible to train for a marathon without running on the streets - I have done it a couple of times, but you do need access to a gym, or home gym with a treadmill, perhaps a cycle machine and cross trainer. What is not possible is being inactive for 6 months and then running a sub 4 hour marathon. Another thing that won't work is jogging on the spot - all that does is to teach your body to move it's legs up and down without any forward motion.

So yes, with the right equipment is it possible to train for a marathon without running on the streets (not recommended), but not possible to do it without any training.

-EDIT-

Just read your other question.... you are a 16 year old male. Problem might be actually entering a marathon. Most marathons have a minimum age of 18 for participants.|||cool little book on Amazon called "marathons for non runners" or something like that, I saw it at half-price books and referred a friend to it because he wants to run a half-marathon this year. And no, of course you have to run if you plan to run a marathon, at least a few days a week, but not every day, you can pull off swimming or weight lifting for exercise as cross training. So unless you own a treadmill and an indoor pool, you're probably going to have to walk out of your house.

Just FYI, the first guy to run a marathon died! It killed him and yet everyone else now thinks it's a great idea. If you're not in shape for it, it could kill you too. He was a Spartan warrior, some of the greatest athletes the world has ever known, and he couldn't pull it off.|||If you don't want to go out running then why in God's name do you want to run a marathon?

If you decide you do want to run a marathon get outside and start running, simple really.|||You dont want to go running every week! Try every day, because thats the kind of commitment you need to finish one in a decent time.|||No....you need to put work into a marathon - it's 26 miles!!

You would need to go out running at least 3-4 times per week.|||I seriously doubt it.|||I think you'll find they're called Snickers now.|||wii fit|||are you nuts
